How can Healthy Start EPIC Center support my program’s success?
The Healthy Start EPIC Center provides free training and technical assistance (TA) to support Healthy Start grantees in achieving program goals to reduce infant mortality, reduce health disparities, and improve birth outcomes. Training and TA are mutually reinforcing capacity building activities. Training strives to build staff core competencies and organizational capacities to effectively provide Healthy Start services. TA provides for free, in-depth assistance in a focused area to an individual grantee or group of grantees, with an eye toward practical application of evidence-based practices targeting Healthy Start performance measures. Training and TA are offered through various modalities, including conferences, regional meetings, webinars, phone consultations, Communities of Practice, and Learning Collaboratives.
How can I identify if my program would benefit from Technical Assistance?
Your Healthy Start Program may choose to use the Healthy Start Program Self-Assessment as a reflective tool to identify strengths and areas for improvement where the Healthy Start EPIC Center can provide training or technical assistance. Programs may choose to administer this voluntary tool however works best for their program, and the results may be used and shared however your program feels is most appropriate. The Healthy Start EPIC Center recommends having staff in different roles complete the survey individually, followed by a group discussion to ensure all perspectives are considered.
The Healthy Start Program Self-Assessment is broken out into two sections – one focused on your Healthy Start activities, and the second looking at the systems and operations in which these services exists. Based on your results in these two areas, your Healthy Start program may choose to seek training or technical assistance from the Healthy Start EPIC Center to support identified areas for improvement. Feel free to discuss your results and potential training or technical assistance options with your Project Officer or your region’s Technical Assistance Coordinator.
What happens after I submit the TA request?
You will be contacted within two business days by email or phone by your region’s Technical Assistance Coordinator to schedule a time to discuss your TA request in greater detail. A TA Provider will be identified to work closely with you until the TA is complete. You and your TA Provider will develop a TA Work Plan that will capture what you want to accomplish, by when and the activities that will achieve this goal. Feel free to Contact Us with questions.
