These workshops allowed participants to become familiar with and practice skills in motivational interviewing (MI), a client/patient-centered communication style that is effective in behavior change. MI can be utilized in situations where clients are ambivalent about various issues such as postpartum visits, smoking, as well as COVID Vaccine Hesitancy.
Participants practiced many of the aspects of MI: cultivating an accepting/nonjudgmental spirit, open ended questions, affirmations, reflections and summaries, and elicit change talk.
These workshops were led by Prantik Saha, a pediatrician and MI trainer/educator.
